A group of senators and representatives write to the attorney general and DEA administrator.
Senators Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, and Representatives Barbara Lee of California and Earl Blumenauer of Oregon led a coalition of legislators in sending a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland and Drug Enforcement Administration Administration Anne Milgram urging officials to expedite the reclassification of marijuana off of Schedule I. The DEA has had the cannabis designation under review.
The legislators wrote, “We are now nearing eight months since the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recommended rescheduling marijuana to Schedule III — and 18 months since President Biden directed HHS and the Department of Justice (DOJ) to begin the process of reviewing marijuana’s scheduling. It is time for the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to act.”
They continued, “We are also hopeful that the DEA will not make the unprecedented choice to disagree with HHS’s medical finding that a drug does not belong in Schedule I.“
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For U.S. legislators to be discerning as they promote the rescheduling of cannabis.
- For wisdom for officials in the DOJ and DEA as they consider the information from HHS and the request from Congress.
